Happy Birthday America

Can we be honest about something deeply uncomfortable?

America is not only being threatened from the outside but it’s being weakened from within by people who have forgotten what this country actually is, what it cost to build, and what it will take to preserve it.

We have become dangerously casual about elevating voices and leaders who do not seem to love America as much as they want to remake it into something unrecognizable.

We’re watching a slow indoctrination dressed up as sophistication, compassion, progress, and moral superiority, when in reality it often asks people to abandon history, distrust their own country, excuse hatred, and call it enlightenment.

Parents need to wake up. We have raised children in comfortable homes, sent them to expensive schools, handed them every advantage, and often failed to teach them the very history that made those privileges possible.

We can’t be surprised when young people who have never missed a meal, never feared government tyranny, never lived under real oppression, and never understood the cost of freedom begin speaking with great confidence about systems they barely understand.

Passion without knowledge is not courage; it is noise.

Outrage without history is not virtue; it’s danger.

And when privileged children begin cheering for ideas that would dismantle the very freedoms that gave them the luxury to protest from safety, someone needs to love them enough to tell them the truth. This is not about silencing young people. It is about educating them. It’s about reminding them that democracy is not a toy for the bored, the angry, or the algorithmically hypnotized.

It is not something to be casually gambled with from the comfort of a beautiful kitchen, a college campus, or a bedroom filled with Amazon boxes and opinions downloaded from TikTok. The future they are helping shape will not only belong to them but it will belong to their children, and their children’s children. If they’re going to speak loudly, they must first learn correctly. If they are going to demand change, they must first understand what should never be destroyed.

America doesn’t need blind loyalty.

It needs informed love. It needs citizens who can criticize it without hating it, improve it without dismantling it, and challenge it without handing its future to ideologies that have harmed human beings everywhere they have taken root.

We should be furious at how easily truth has been replaced by social media, how quickly hatred is excused when it comes from the “right” or “left” side or whatever side, and how casually antisemitism and hate has been repackaged as activism.

A country that cannot recognize hatred when it is aimed at Jews has not become more enlightened. It has become morally confused. So yes, Happy Fourth of July, America. But also: WAKE UP, America. Read. Think. Question. Teach your children. Stop outsourcing their moral education to platforms that profit from their outrage.

Stop assuming comfort produces wisdom. Stop confusing volume with virtue. Freedom is not self-cleaning. Democracy is not indestructible. History can’t be rewritten or rebranded. And if we don’t start telling the truth with courage, the country we celebrate this week with fireworks may become something we no longer recognize by the time the smoke clears and the sparklers fizzle out.

And finally, on this Independence Day, I celebrate a true gift in my life.

Happy twenty-third birthday to my third-born 4th of July baby and deeply cherished child, Fallan.

You have always been the brightest, boldest, and most powerful firecracker I know. Watching you grow into the remarkable woman you are has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. May you always think for yourself, stand for what is right even when it is difficult, and never forget that true freedom begins with the courage to seek truth.

Happy 4th of July.

That’s my Reveal.

Love,
Karin
